Frequently Asked Questions

How does Fivenines detect package vulnerabilities?
The Fivenines agent reads the list of installed packages from your system's package manager and compares each package version against known CVE databases. No source code scanning or network probing is involved - it checks what's installed and reports what's vulnerable.
Which Linux distributions are supported?
Any distribution using apt (Debian, Ubuntu), yum/dnf (RHEL, CentOS, Fedora, AlmaLinux, Rocky Linux), apk (Alpine), or pacman (Arch Linux). This covers the vast majority of Linux servers in production.
Can I get alerts when new vulnerabilities are found?
Yes. You can set up alerts that notify you via email, Slack, Telegram, Discord, Pushover, or webhooks whenever new vulnerabilities are detected on any of your servers.
Does vulnerability scanning slow down my server?
No. The agent reads package metadata that's already on your system. There's no deep file scanning or heavy computation involved. The impact is negligible.
